Latest Issues from the Neighbourhood Networks

VOX Neighbourhood Networks: Issues July - September 2008
Recurring themes in all networks:

Lack of support or understanding the rationale behind the latest reorganisation of Youth Services which has left gaps in several areas

Drugs and anti social behaviour issues/underage drinking - however police have recently made significant gain in some areas which have been noted

Under utilisation, recognition and/or support for historical buildings in and around Wakefield District Area

Group development and training issues including support in developing funding bids amongst other things

Lack of support and maintenance of play areas within the District

Public transport

Home Office - Policing Green Paper: A Home Office consultation paper was distributed. Any parties interested were informed that the paper would need to be returned to the Home Office by 10th October (address provided).

WMDC Local Development Framework - Waste Development Plan Document: A letter inviting comment on WMDC's Local Development Framework for Waste Management was distributed. Members were informed how to take part in the consultation online.

NHS Constitution: A draft of the new NHS constitution was distributed. The Network was informed that they could feedback their thoughts on the new constitution. Interested parties were requested to send their responses to the Department of Health.

VOX Neighbourhood Networks bring together voluntary and community groups and individual community members with statutory organisations in specific parts of the district. Supported by the VOX Community Engagement Team these networks exist to enable communities to have a greater say in what happens in their area, identifying and tackling local issues as well as giving an opportunity to share information.
