Police Equality Schemes
Consultation Closing: 15th January 2010
"Understanding people and the services they require to enable the Force to design and deliver a policing service that will inspire public confidence."
The preparation of new Equality Schemes will allow West Yorkshire Police and The Police Authority to focus on the needs and expectations of people with characteristics protected by equality duties or anti-discrimination laws. This consultation and linked events are aimed at organisations and community groups that work with, or represent, such individuals.
The new Single Equality Duty will require public authorities to "consider the needs of diverse groups in the community when designing and delivering public services so that people can get fairer opportunities and better public services." Public authorities will also need to consider 'how they can reduce the socio-economic inequalities that people face.'
Improving public confidence is one of the top priorities for both organisations. West Yorkshire Police is working hard to improve the quality of service delivered to people living and working within West Yorkshire, ensuring that people are satisfied with the service they receive whilst managing their expectations.
This is noticeable in every policing division through the resources dedicated to neighbourhood policing and the adoption of the Policing Pledge.
Understanding people within West Yorkshire and the services they require will enable the Force to design and deliver a policing service that will inspire public confidence.
These topics will be the focus of the consultation with individuals and communities from diverse backgrounds.
If you are a member of a community group or organisation that works with or represents individuals who have an interest in the development of the Police Equality Schemes, you can get a copy of the consultation document by contacting VOX on 01977 691922 or emailing info@voxnet.org.uk.
