Healthier Communities Fund

The £1 million Healthier Communities Fund was launched in the District in June 2008. It is an ambitious funding scheme aimed at developing more health services in the local community run by local community and voluntary organisations or groups.
Wakefield District Primary Care Trust (PCT) provided £1 million for the fund and is working in partnership with VOX Community Empowerment Network and Voluntary Action Wakefield District (VAWD) who will work on the administration, publicity and development of the fund.
The idea behind the fund is that voluntary and community groups are well placed and have the community knowledge to identify, tailor and deliver support for clinical care and other services which will improve health in their local areas.
The two areas of work that the fund has provided monies for are:
1. Preventing and Managing Childhood Obesity
2. Proportion of people with long term conditions supported to be independent and in control of their condition and without hospital intervention
